ARE YOU NEW TO HOCKEY?

WHY HOCKEY?

Did you hear about the sport from a friend or neighbor and want to find out more?

Hockey is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country right now. It not only teaches kids about the game, but also provides valuable life lessons, such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

First, you're in the right spot.  We offer programs for boys and girls at the youth level as well as high school aged players. Don't worry if your kid has never played, our high-level coaches and practice environment will allow them to learn how to skate and stickhandle in no time.  A lot of kids have only picked up a hockey stick in the last year to two, and every year we add more new kids to our program.

If you have a child that is interested in hockey, we have our Taste Of Hockey for your player to get taste.  You can also find information on necessary Equipment, as well as information on our Starter Equipment Voucher Program.  Our site has a tremendous amount of info so please read through the content to become familiar with our association.  Don't hesitate to send us an email if you can't find what you are looking for.

Check out our Programs Offered page from the Links section on the right for more information on the different programs we offer.

TASTE OF HOCKEy

Does your child want to try skating prior to registering for the upcoming season?  We have just the thing!  Our Taste Of Hockey program is a chance for people new to skating can come to the rink and try it out - all for free!  We have a couple dates where your child can come out, grab a pair of skates, and hit the ice with some of our mite coaches for an hour of fun!  If you have skates and a hockey stick already, please bring them along, but if not, don't worry!  We will have some skates available to borrow for the hour.  The only things you will need are a helmet (preferably a hockey helmet, but a bike helmet will also work), a pair of gloves (hockey gloves if you have them, but just a pair of winter gloves will also work), and some long pants and shirt!

Schedule
All sessions will be held at Fogerty Arena.  Please register, and show up about 20-30 minutes early to check-in, get skates (if needed), and get your child ready.

We try to get a special guest (Nordy) to join us on during one of the sessions, so bring along your cameras!

We typically try to do a fun closing event following the last session.

equipment information

What equipment is needed?

Under USA Hockey rules, players are required to wear an approved helmet with a mask, shoulder pads, mouth guard, hockey gloves, shin guards, athletic cup (boys) or pelvic protector (girls), elbow pads, breezers, skates, and a stick.  Hockey tape is used to tape the stick.  When attaining equipment, keep in mind that Blaine Bengals colors are Navy Blue, Columbia Blue, and white.  A hockey bag will make it convenient and easier to store and carry equipment.

Where can you get equipment?

This season, we are continuing our partnership with Dave’s Sport Shop where all new, first-year players (including both Mites and Cubs) will receive a voucher that can be used to purchase a starter kit, which will include most of the equipment needed (excluding skates, cup/pelvic protector and stick), and also includes a hockey bag.  Game Jerseys, Practice Jerseys and Hockey Socks are typically provided with our Winter Programs.  Equipment can also be purchased at many sporting goods retailers in the area, including Dave’s Sports Shop, Lettermen Sports and Pure Hockey.
