MN Hockey Participation Rule

BYHA follows the policy as established by Minnesota Hockey (MH).  A summary of those rules are;

Live within the boundaries covered by Blaine High School.  To see the boundaries covered by Blaine High School, you can click here.
Attend a school whose location is within the boundaries of Blaine High School
Obtain a waiver (for more information, please contact your home association).

Please refer to the Youth Rules and Regulation Handbook (link below) on the MH website for the complete rule.   The above are summarized.

We will be verifying that our payers are eligible to register and play with BYHA.

USA Hockey Requirement

All participants registering for BYHA (players, coaches, volunteers) MUST register with USA HOCKEY prior to registering with the association. You will get a nine-digit confirmation code that needs to be entered during BYHA registration.

The registration fee is $40 for USA Hockey and $10 for MN Hockey (US Hockey affiliate) if age 7 or older. The USA Hockey fee is waived for age 6 and younger, however, registration must still be completed to obtain a confirmation number. If a participant plays and coaches he/she pays only one registration fee. USA Hockey requires this fee because USA Hockey carries insurance for an injury on the ice.

The home address should be used for all participants. If a player lives in one state and plays in another, enter the home address and pay any applicable Affiliate fee. The confirmation page/number will be accepted by any USA Hockey program in the country.

Additional confirmation pages can be requested from the Welcome page at USA Hockey. Click on the puck in the upper left corner and enter last name, date of birth and zip code. You can then print the page or send it to the email address you enter.

Steps to register on USA Hockey:

  1. Follow link below to USA Hockey and choose either;
    • Ice Players & Coaches or
    • Ice Managers/Volunteers
  2. Click on the "register now" button on the left hand side
  3. You must be 18 years of age to process a registration; check the box that acknowledges that YOU are 18 or older.
  4. Follow the prompts and fill in all data correctly. ENTER YOUR CHILD's NAME EXACTLY AS IT APPEARS ON THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATE.  Your player's paperwork is not valid unless their names match.
  5. Process payment using: Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express (credit or debit card); a Visa gift card will also work.
  6. You may print your Confirmation page at this time. It will also be emailed to you immediately after the registration is completed.

Sports Engine

To access BYHA online registration you will need to log in to your SportsEngine account. Do not create a new account if you already have one. If you do not yet have a SportsEngine account, you need to create one by clicking on the "create an account" at the top of the page.

Each BYHA traveling family is requested to volunteer at least five (5) hours per season. There are opportunities throughout the season to complete these hours, please check the volunteer section on the web site to sign up.

Volunteer hours are documented through DIBS.

Since volunteers have contact with players, each is required to do the following (there are no fees for volunteers):

Registration Fee

BYHA hopes each family understands there is significant time and effort surrounding establishing registration fee amounts for each level.  Beyond the registration fee BYHA relies heavily on sponsors and donations to keep fees at the most reasonable level possible.

Registration fees are utilized to pay of operating expenses such as:
Tryouts (ice time and evaluators)
Games and practice ice time
Tournament fees
District 10 fees (referees, district tournaments, other costs)
BYHA equipment (jerseys, socks and breezer covers)

BYHA primarily uses historical operating results to gauge registration fees.  In addition, estimated figures and data is used such as; number of registered players, ice time hourly rates, District 10 fees, number and location of tournaments.

We strongly encourage support of our Charitable Gambling sites in an effort to keep the fees to a minimum.

Team/Rostering Fee

At higher levels of play an additional fee will be charged.  The rostering/season fee will be assessed shortly after tryouts are concluded and teams are finalized.

The fee is to cover additional costs associated with play at this level.

Waive Up

If you are age eligible for Mites/U8 you must register via the In-House Registration and indicate you are electing to request a waive up.  If you are Traveling age and requesting a waive up to an older level, you must register for the ACTUAL age group you belong in.

You also must complete a Waive Up Request Form and email it to the Boys or Girls Traveling Director PRIOR to Friday,  Sept 14th.

You also must attend the BYHA Board Meeting on Monday, September 17th at 7:00 pm in the Conference Room at Fogerty and present your reasoning for request.

Until the waive up request is approved or denied by the Board, you may not attend any Traveling Pre-Skate sessions for the waive up level.

If your waive up is approved, you will be refunded for the In-House registration fee and will be required to re-register for the Traveling program.
