MN Hockey Participation Rule

Blaine Youth Hockey Association boundaries are determined by Minnesota Hockey.   To participate with BYHA you must meet one of the criteria listed below.   The rules listed below are summarized.  Refer to the Youth Rules and Regulation Handbook (link below) on the Minnesota Hockey website for the complete rules.

Live within the boundaries covered by Blaine High School
(Blaine High School boundaries -  click here)
Attend a school whose location is within the boundaries of Blaine High School (will need a school waiver from your home association - must contact the BYHA registrar)
Obtain a waiver (for more information, please contact your home association).

BYHA will be verifying that registered players are eligible to participate and play with BYHA.

Age Chart and Waive-Up Requests

To request a Waive-Up to an older level of play, you must first review the BYHA Policy for eligibility.  If eligible, next you will need to register according to the MN Hockey Age Charts as you would without a Waive-Up.

If your birth-date falls within the Mites/8U age group and your interested in waiving up to the Squirt/10U level, you must complete the In-House Registration and indicate you are electing to request a Waive-Up.

Traveling aged players must also register at the levels according to the MN Hockey Age Chart before requesting a Waive-Up to an older level.

Once the winter program registration is complete and submitted,  a Waive-Up Request registration needs to be filled out with the link found to the right.

All Waive-Up requests must have one parent attend the BYHA Board Meeting on Monday, Aug 21st, 2023 to present your reasoning for your Waive-Up request.

All players should attend the Traveling Pre-Skate sessions for the level they are registered for.   If a Waive-Up is approved, your registration will be moved to the approved level.

In-House players who are granted a Waive-Up will have their In-House Registration refunded and will be required to re-register for the Traveling program as instructed by the BYHA Board.

All Season Waive-Up Requests must be submitted and acknowledged by the close of Traveling Registration.

The Registration "Winter Program Registrations" is not currently available.

Registration Fee

BYHA hopes each family understands there is significant time and effort surrounding establishing registration fee amounts for each level.  Beyond the registration fee, BYHA relies heavily on sponsors and donations to keep fees at the most reasonable level possible.

Registration fees are utilized to pay of operating expenses such as:

  • Tryouts (ice time and evaluators)
  • Games and practice ice time
  • Tournament fees
  • District 10 fees (referees, district tournaments, other costs)
  • BYHA equipment (jerseys, socks and breezer covers)
  • Coaches

BYHA primarily uses historical operating results to gauge registration fees.  In addition, estimated figures and data is used such as; number of registered players, ice time hourly rates, District 10 fees, number and location of tournaments, etc.

We strongly encourage all members to support of our Charitable Gambling sites in an effort to keep hockey fees to a minimum.

Team Level Fee

At higher levels of play an additional fee will be charged.  The Team Level Fee will be assessed shortly after tryouts are concluded and teams are finalized.

This fee is to cover additional costs associated with play at this level.
